Have you heard about America? Have you heard about Christopher Columbus, the discoverer of America? Yes, it was Christopher Columbus who discovered America. Some Christopher Columbus facts said that he had so many things hidden in his life. Some of them are on these lists.

1. Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy, in October 31, 1451 from father Domenico Colombo and mother Susanna Fontanarossa. When he was little, he was named Cristoforo Columbus and a few years later, he work as a seafarer. He sold charts and maps when his ship docked.

2. All his explorations were funded by Isabella I of Castille and his success marked the Spanish colonization that was marketed new world. The idea to find a new world and sail the ocean came from one of his brother, Bartholomew.

3. Christopher Columbus was not the first European who landed in America. It was the Norse led by Leif Ericson who first landed in America 500 years before Columbus’ landing. Ericson built his colonies in L’Anse Aux meadows. And Columbus was the first European diplomatic who sought new lands to dominate.

4. On his first voyage, he ride on one carrack: Santa Maria (The gallega), accompanied by two small caravels: Pinta and Santa Clara (The Nina).

5. One of the hardest part of his voyage was to recruit new crews. Because of the doctrine of the Churches, many sailors on Columbus’ time believe that the earth was flat.

6. Also on his first voyage, Columbus claimed one island, named San Salvador which was later known as Bahamas. In this island, he met his first native encounter with the Lucayan, Taino or Arawak, who was luckily very friendly. However, it is in this island Columbus killed them (approximately hundred of thousand taino).

7. Columbus launched his first voyage in August 3, 1492. He later carried on with his second, third and fourth voyage in September 24, 1493; May 30, 1498; and April 2, 1502. On all his journey, Columbus carried on 17 ships and more than hundred men.

8. During his life, Columbus had written two books. The first book, titled Book of Priviliges (1502), composed rewards he earned from his exploration and experiments. The second book, titled Book of Prophecies (1505), contained his achievements in his life and relationship with Christianity.

9. On December 5, 1502, on his fourth journey, near Panama, storm hit Columbus and his crews. The storm made them stranded in Panama for a year.

10. Columbus died in May 20, 1506, when he reached 54 years old.
